ROMAN VS. GREEK

Classical period is divided into four periods (Geometric,Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic). Classical is somehow related to renaissance. Because of the figures and other structures.

The Greeks believed in four –isms. Humanism (humans are the center of the universe),rationalism (knowledge comes from reason alone), naturalism (basically what it looks like), and idealism ( it look like perfectly)

During the geometric period humanism and idealsim is not yet shown. It featured people in its art but the figures were neither realistic nor idealistic. One example of an artwork here is a Dipylon vase called “Women Working On A Loom.” This vase had geometric patterns on it and it tells of how the women back then lived – doing basketry, weaving and also ceramics. The Archaic period, however, started to have some sense of realism and idealism. Some proofs are “The Dying Warrior” and “The Fallen Warrior,” two sculptures placed on the pediments of the Temple of Aphaea. A smile can be seen from these two and it is called the “Archaic smile.”

The classical period was when the famous Diskobolos (Discus Thrower) was made which became a proof of when the Olympics started. This sculpture
showed perfect balance between realism and idealism. And it is  the most important development in the classical art – movement. The Parthenon is also a memorable architecture in this era. It had a huge sculpture of Athena inside it made from ivory and gold by Phidias. If it is viewed from afar, its column lines would look straight but actually that is just an illusion and the lines aren’t really straight. something tricky right? hahaha More examples of classical sculptures are:

“The Three Goddesses” also made by Phidias.
“Doryphoros” by Polykleitos, showed the famous counterpose (weight on the right leg)
“Hermes and Dionysus” and “Apoxyomenos” from the late classical period, these sculptures showed more stories and were more naturalistic;
“The Dying Gaul” and “Aphrodite de Melos” from the Hellenistic period, expressed inner emotions.

Even Romans imitate Greeks they actually did a good job in their art especially in architecture. They made structures not just for display purposes but for function and form, too. One of the most amazing innovations they did is the use of concrete in replacement for cut stones. They also adopted the Ionic order and post-and-lintel but made it better by improving arches to domes.

When talking about Rome, the first thing people would think of is the Flavian Amphitheatre or more popularly known as the “Colosseum.” From it's latin word i already knew that it was originally built for entertainment,  and such, but was later used for like human vs animals.

What I like in this period is the amazing architectures and the idealistic figures. They are pleasing to the eye and it helps us to know what happened in the past. They are such a good place to go through.I hope that one day i could see them personally. =)

Art from the beginning

Venus of Wilendorf

The ancient art is divided into three period- The Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic era.“Palaeolithic” means old stone (palaeo=old; lithic=stone). Their subjects are usually animals and humans so you could say that the style they use is naturalism and the people back then used stones and pigments as their medium. Here, we’d find the oldest arts there ever were and one of these are the cave paintings. The famous hall of bulls from Lascaux,France. And one of the famous art of paleolithic art is the venus of wilendorf .It seems that cave painting started the origin od doodle. This  was also the beginning of writing which first came in the form of petroglyphs . The arts in the old stone age were the last ones before ice age came.

The famous cave painting "Hall of bulls"- Lascaux,France

After the ice age, the Mesolithic Era or Epipaleolithic took place. The style here is naturalism, the same with the Palaeolithic era, but with more focus on people.

Next came the Neolithic Era or the New Stone Age (neo=new; lithic=stone). What I remember the most from this era is the Stonehenge. Who knew that it would be the start of architectural design.
Stonehenge

There are civilizations in the East (Mesopotamia) that had a huge impact in the art we know today. These are in:

Sumer – crafts mostly made out of clay and about gods
Akkad – about violence, kings, gods; used by the royalties to show power; steel, clay, and stone as medium
Babylonia – about laws; clay and brick as medium
Assyria – about military; Assyrians conquered Babylon and “copied” their art; stone as medium
Persia – one of the richest arts; a mix of cultures due to conquests;  includes architecture, painting, weaving, pottery, metal weaving, and stone masonry; their columns were thinner, modelled after the Greek’s, and uses images of animal heads for the capitals instead of the normal ones; makes use of frieze/embossments; featured royalties

The three that made so much influence on art:
1.       EGYPT. Their subjects were mostly about kings and queens and their medium was granite; style used was naturalism; The most famous bust from Egyptian art is the bust of Nefertiti.
Bust of Nefertiti

2. GREECE. Aegean art divided into three categories:
Mycenaean – art style used was naturalism and representational; famous for its gold masks; mostly architectural; featured large stones and high walls
Cycladic – subject was highly stylised forms of women (representations); marble as medium
Minoan – also representational; bricks as medium; their columns are simpler

3. JERUSALEM. This is the home of the three greatest religions in the world namely Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The common architecture that Jerusalem used is domes. Their are style is naturalism. Their subject matter focuses on domes and the famous dome is the dome of the wall where all religion is united.

"The Dome of the wall"

In conclusion, I say that this era has really taught me were art really and it will make way for improvements. Just because art has already evolved so much since the ancient times, it doesn't mean that we've improved enough already so we should just stop now. No. We never stop learning. We will keep on progressing.

Amazing Smile and Swirls

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci and Vincent Willem van Gogh are two of the well known painters in the history of art. The two gives importance in our history. They have shown us their talent in painting with love, passion and hope. These two artists fascinate thousands of people because of their art. They are inspiration to look up to. Leonardo da Vinci who’s been famous because of his amazing painting called “Mona Lisa” and Vincent van Gogh been popular because of his incredibly painting called “Starry Night”. It’s been centuries but these artworks are still kept and a lot of people are attracted to their artworks. Maybe because their works are really interesting that the artist give their full effort and has a interesting story. I’m one of the thousands of people who are attracted to those paintings and I wish I could see the exact paintings. If I could only see those paintings maybe I can say why is it really interesting and attractive. And maybe because their artworks are magical and there are hidden stories to it that makes it attractively.

“Mona Lisa” (Monna Lisa or La Gioconda in Italian; La Joconde in French)  is the most famous portrait of all time, painted by the famous Leonardo Da Vinci an Italian Renaissance man who was gifted in a number of areas, including writing, mathematics, geology, engineering, music and painting. Leonardo contributed to the study of anatomy by dissecting corpses to find out the actual functioning of the human body; in the field of physics he investigated the laws of waves and currents and the flight of birds. He was also a civil and military engineer involved in the construction of fortifications and canals. Leonardo spent about twenty years (1480s - 1499) in the service of Lodovico Sforza, the Duke of Milan (who frequently neglected to pay Leonardo). His output during this period included two of his best known paintings: The Madonna of the Rocks (1483-85) and the mural The Last Supper (1495-98).

The Mona Lisa has become an icon of the Renaissance, the most recognized painting in the world. The painting is called “La Gioconda” as well because Mona Lisa was married for Francesco Bartolomeo del Giocondo. It was painted on wood. The mystery of the portrait is that when you look at her face it seems Mona Lisa smiles, but when you look into her mouth, she does not.

Next is the starry night by Vincent Van Gogh was a Post-Impressionism painter of Dutch oriwhose work—notable for its rough beauty, emotional honesty, and bold color—had a far-reaching influence on 20th-century art. Despite of his illness he pursues his passion and continues to be better. He is a perfect example of a real outstanding artist. There is a lot of good artist in our history, but he is one of a kind.

His brushstroke is at once restrained and dynamic, and use impasto technique, thickly applied colors, creates a rhythmic effect—the picture seems to constantly move in its frame. His characteristic long, thin strokes define the forms but also create the emotionalism in the work. He presents his subject not as we see it, but as he would like us to experience it.

hmmm...What's the connection all about?

Art  \ˈärt\
-          Something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings. (based on Merriam Webster dictionary)

What is life back then before? At the beginning life is hard. Struggles may come but then there is hope for the better. Life was given to us. Centuries ago human were created and explore the world. In some little ways they treasure on what happening to their everyday lives. They express it through cave painting, drawing symbols on the bones of animal and etc. I guess for them every day is adventure and fun because it is exciting to explore new things. This means a lot to us. That is because of art and history. They play important roles in our life. As we all know both of it help to feed our minds with knowledge and information. I guess everyone agree that art and history are connected.

When I was young until now I've idolize my dad when it becomes to art. I really love his dedication to work hard. That’s why I’m inspired to take up MMA. Now, art became part of my passion in life.  At first I never thought I would love arts because back when I was a child I’m impatient and not that good in arts. But as time pass by I learn to change (not literary big change: D) and develop my skills in the different fields of arts. This example of a story or an art behind a significance meaning.

Art and history are connected to one another. Without history, we will not be able to understand the messages behind every art of the artists. They'll never know that there are great things about arts. If we keep on ignoring their historic times, our artworks will also be gone in our society. So we have to keep on reminding to our society that our heroes make artworks like writing novels and painting to fight for our freedom. I consider our everyday life to have arts because there’s always story behind our smiles, expressions and so on. Connecting art to history there’s a story behind every art. The art focuses on the meaning of the significance of works.

Living Quietly

I couldn't imagine that one day  we woke up and live silence.Without sound everything will be plain as in EVERYTHING. No one will understand what's going on us. It will be hard for us to be belonged and connected to other people. We will all felt incomplete because we can see and touch but it seems incomplete without voices to be heard and listen. Everything will be meaningless. And us human being will be all clueless and i guess we din't have verbal communication.

Being able to hear is one of the most God's greatest gift. If we will all in silence , we can't appreciate the music. It will be really hard to express through this kind of instrument. The existence of singing and dancing will be no longer available. But then the good thing  if everything will be silent, the noises on violence will be gone. But how we can replace the sound of our hearts, voices, animals and nature.

I don't thing i could live or survive without sound. Sound makes us happy and live better.I couldn't imagine how the people who have capabilities in hearing and speaking live like a regular human being it's like so amazing. How could they handle it, it is really amazing. With that I've realized that we should appreciate what we are right now and what have God given us and there are lot of reasons to live more.So let's us all appreciate it.

The Power of Words

Do you know what are words? Who knows what it is? WORDS,Wow! big word right? It's just consist of 6 letters. We speak to tell what is in our minds.Words are powerful when we speak.Sometime words are complicated, because of there meaning that make our mind think. They are meaningful because they stay in our minds forever.

People use words to explain ideas and messages. Words have the power to inform. Without it we will all be clueless on what's happening to us and all over the world. People use words to explain ideas and messages, to convince people. An example to that are celebrity and politician uses words to gain sympathy.Sometimes we can't control ourselves to expressed what's in our mind. It can even hurt the feelings of others. Words are fragile and unstoppable. Once we say something, it will be forever can't be erase.

Words are the most important factor when speaking.  But those words exceed on what we are expecting. Without any words coming out through our mouths we cannot say what we feel to a someone.  But those words overreach  on what are we expecting. Without any words coming out through our mouths we cannot say what we feel to a someone. And one thing for sure, always remember that we should know the importance of words and as they say "think before we talk".
